Snips, snails, and puppy dog tails.... that's what our baby is made of!

When I was young, we had a little book of Mother Goose's Rhymes, and included was a poem about the origins of boys and girls:

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails
That's what little boys are made of !
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice and all things nice
That's what little girls are made of!

For the record, "snips" actually means pieces of eel according to the original early 19th century context of the word. Based off what we saw on the ultrasound, I think that our little boy is probably not made of any of those things since I haven't eaten eel, snails, or puppy tails recently, but I'm sure he will probably love all those things once he starts living life in the outside world.

Paul and I both thought we were *probably* going to have a boy. Call it intuition or whatever you want, but we were functioning somewhat under the stronger assumption it was a boy as opposed to a girl.  This is highly convenient (and, of course, exciting) for us as well, because we already had a boy's name picked out, but were somewhat at a loss for a girls name, partially because there were more choices. We had sort of decided early on in our courtship that it would be fun/appropriate for Paul's first son to be named Paul Herald Risk IV because Paul is actually Paul Herald Risk III. So, since we anticipate that being a little confusing, but we've got a few good nicknames lined up so it doesn't get too bad.

Potential nicknames:
Cuatro
Paulo
Pauly-wog
Or possibly "Ollie" as a play on Herald, although obviously it's a different spelling from the traditional "Harold" and thank goodness for that.

And the list goes on. Currently we've been generally referring to him as Cuatro though, and that one may stick - although neither of us are exactly fluent in Spanish, we can both understand it okay/speak a smattering of it.

Anyway, when we got the ultrasound everything looked great, and the OBGYN showed us where the baby's brain, kidneys, stomach, heart, ears, and hands were. We *kind of* saw the face, but not very well. He even showed us where little teeth are down in the jaw which obviously won't be out when little Cuatro is born, but will eventually come out. That was pretty fun - I didn't know babies had teeth at all while in the womb.

We're excited to meet this little boy and can't wait for the opportunity to be his parents!

I think this kid kind of looks like Paul :)

We are definitely reaching the point in the semester where Paul and I are feeling pretty burned out from school. Still truckin' though, because the end is very much in sight. I'm excited to go and do outdoorsy things like camping and visiting local festivals this summer, and we're both excited for the break, and the impending baby birthing (the due date is somewhere between August 8th and 11th, and our first anniversary is on August 1st - impeccable timing, haha.) Once we have something more exciting to report than school, I'll write about that, but for now, baby Cuatro is forefront in our minds.
